Study By Fairr Initiative Attests to Marfrig’s Commitment to Sustainable Development

São Paulo, September 18, 2019 - Marfrig Global Foods, a leading global animal protein company and the world’s largest beef patty producer, was a highlight in the aspect of sustainability in the latest study conducted by Fairr Initiative, a network of collaborative investors that works to raise awareness on the risks and opportunities of ESG materials in intensive animal production and helps investors to identify and prioritize these factors through cutting-edge research.

In the study “Coller FAIRR Protein Producer Index 2019” released this month, Marfrig figured in the ranking compiled by the institution as the beef producer with the highest ranking and the highest ranking of all Brazilian companies, which demonstrates its commitment to operating excellence and to sustainability.

Sustainable development is a key pillar of Marfrig’s strategy and its operations around the world adopt concrete actions to mitigate the environmental impact of their activities. The company’s sustainability platform is based on five strategic pillars: Control of Origin, Working Conditions & Biodiversity, Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Animal Welfare, Use of Natural Resources – Water & Energy, and Proper Management, Treatment & Destination of Effluents & Solid Waste.

These five principles are complemented by the pillars of food quality and safety that involve controlling the use of antibiotics, hormones and controversial substances in raw materials and during production. The effort focuses on sustainability and animal welfare throughout the entire value chain.
