Marfrig ships first container of fresh beef to USA


U.S. market is the first step in expanding our high-value global destinations for Brazilian products

São Paulo, September 18 – The Beef Division of Marfrig Global Foods shipped its first container of fresh beef to the United States with production lots dated September 14 and 15 from its Bataguassu Unit in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. At Marfrig’s five other units already authorized to export to the United States, production will begin in accordance with its production schedule.

With the opening of the U.S. market, Brazilian beef producers will enjoy an excellent opportunity to account for a significant portion of the duty-free quota of 64,000 tons allocated to Brazil and other Latin American countries. The reason is that this volume has never been fully reached and some of the countries that currently use the largest part of the quota will have only limited access to the U.S. market as of 2020, due to the implementation of the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA), which should free up more of the quota for Brazilian beef.

Brazil’s fresh beef exports to the United States are the result of the efforts made by the Ministry of Agriculture, which reduced bureaucracy to effectively open up the U.S. market in record time and, just 45 days after signing the trade agreement, Brazil is already shipping its first container of fresh beef to the country.

The Beef Division teams in Uruguay and the Keystone Division in the United States helped Marfrig become the first Brazilian company to export fresh beef to the United States.
